Employment pathways for refugees and migrants – Suncorp

Suncorp provides employment pathways for refugees and migrants.

Through our partnership with Multicultural Development Australia (MDA), Suncorp is helping to build the financial resilience of refugees and humanitarian entrants arriving in Queensland.

Suncorp’s Financial Inclusion Action Plan focuses on building the financial resilience of our community by establishing partnerships that provide pathways to education and employment. Suncorp’s partnership with MDA is a great example of this. By working with MDA, we can support refugees and humanitarian entrants who are at-risk of financial exclusion, hardship and crisis situations.

Our partnership with MDA includes an employment pathways program, made up of job readiness sessions, career mentoring with Suncorp employees, job opportunities for refugees and humanitarian entrants, and cultural training for the receiving Suncorp teams.

This year, Suncorp employed nine MDA clients. Arnold Ayuya joined Suncorp through this partnership, and now works in our contact centre.

"There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about how far I have come, considering where I’ve come from. Not too long ago, the dream of having a career was so distant it was barely believable. To think I’d have a chance to have a career like this is a great blessing,” Arnold said.

"I’ve grown and will continue growing as part of the Suncorp team. I’m grateful that I can help the team grow too. Being involved in the day-to-day activities and knowing that my contribution is valued is very fulfilling.”

Suncorp is incredibly proud of Arnold and others who have joined us through the MDA partnership and the employment pathways program. They help Suncorp to better reflect and serve the diverse communities we are part of.

In addition to continuing the employment pathways program in 2019, we look forward to co-developing a financial literacy program for refugees, humanitarian entrants and migrants with MDA.
