Water safety

On the Same Wave

With hundreds of first-class beaches spanning our coastline, beach culture is an inseparable element of Queensland’s identity. Everybody should be able to participate safely in our world famous beach culture and outdoor lifestyle, which is why the Queensland Government has partnered with Surf Life Saving Queensland to deliver On the Same Wave.

On the Same Wave is a joint water safety initiative which promotes water safety messages to migrants and refugees, international students and international visitors to Queensland.

Activities under the program include:

  • raising awareness of water safety messages in several languages at multicultural festivals and events, hotels and information centres throughout Queensland and via Surf Life Saving Australia’s Beachsafe portal.
  • delivering water safety education workshops for at-risk communities including recently-arrived migrants and refugees.
  • promoting Surf Life Saving Australia's Beachsafe app for iPhone and Android devices that allows users to obtain real-time beach safety information in several languages.
  • providing opportunities for Queenslanders from diverse backgrounds to get involved in surf lifesaving as volunteers.
