On 18 June 2020 the Electoral and Other Legislation (Accountability, Integrity and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2020 was passed by the Queensland Legislative Assembly, with changes coming into effect on 12 October. Read more about the rolling reform agenda for the local government sector.

All local government and standing committees meetings are open to the public unless the council has resolved that the meeting be closed, as councillors are accountable to their local community for their decisions and actions.

Voting at local government and committee meetings must be open and decisions are taken by a majority - i.e. by a majority vote - of the councillors who are present.
