To promote greater diversity and inclusion in local government, the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning has developed a Women in Local Government Strategy targeting four Local Government Managers Association (LGMA) training and development opportunities.

Ignite Program

This program will give participants the skills needed to manage themselves and their team in an increasing complex environment. The Ignite program builds self-awareness as well as skills in leading, managing, coaching and developing individuals and teams.

Duration: Six days held over five months.

Propeller Program

A professional development program that gives participants a broader understanding of local government in Queensland – its nuances, challenges and opportunities. The Propeller Program provides participants with the opportunity to visit a range of different councils (city, regional and indigenous) while learning about a wide range of leadership topics in the context of local government as a whole.

Duration: Introductory Forum plus eight leadership targeted workshops over 7 1/2 months.

Executive Management Program

Want to be a council CEO? This program is aimed at council officers who are keen to develop a detailed understanding of the role of the Chief Executive Officer within the Queensland local government system.

Duration: Three days with preparation required beforehand.
